Oh and as always probably not safe for work (depends on your work i guess, contains swearing and some dark humour (that’s not a promise, tho…!)

American Edit gets Cease and Desist after only 10 days

Tuesday, November 29th, 2005

Wow – it’s not a good time for poor ol’ Dean Gray and the amazing Greenday American Edit remix album – got a response, all good apart from Warners serving a Cease and Desist on the album – the site has been pulled, but there are already murmurs about another (Dean) Gray Tuesday – certainly this is better than the Dangermouse LP and deserves to be heard.

Even the Grey Album (EMI) and Kleptones Night at a Hiphopera (Sony / Disney) didn’t get a response that quick.

If you poke around you’ll find it, I suggest you burn copies for friends, share, torrent, put online. The album is pure talent and it deserves to be out there.

Surprised Warners are so touchy, given that other Greenday mashups seem to have the unnofficial nod, if only from the band themselves.

UPDATE: Boing Boing have picked up the story, amongst others.
UPDATE #2: Looks like Dean Gray Tuesday is shaping up to be December 13th. Put it in your diaries folks :-D 50 sites signed up so far, they need more mirrors so consider signing up if you have the bandwidth/space – more the merrier – or in this case, stronger.
UPDATE #3: This was down to a piracy consulting firm doing this on behalf of Warners according to Partyben’s site. Yes and they and their site does look creepy…Also you can help even if you’re not hosting by seeding this torrent on December 13th (I’m sure they’ll be many more – and if you’re hosting I’m sure you can get the tracks from it). See, no excuse? :-D

Why I don’t like internet radio (or Yahoo)

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2005

OK so trying to save some battery power on my iRiver and bored at work I try and use Yahoo’s Launch – I used to listen to this online personalised streaming station a lot…first I try Firefox; and get am error code ‘Netscape 6+ not supported’. OK, not great, obviously IE specific but I have that on this Mac…I then open up IE and try it and get this error:

Error

Sorry, OS 8.5 or higher (not OS X), Netscape 4.5 (not 6.0+), and Windows Media Player 7.0+ required

Error Code: 5 – 0

That’s pretty funny. A company with the resources of Yahoo, and their online player (which you have to use to make you see their annoying ads) only supports Mac Classic, and NS 4.5? Talk about shutting out an entire audience…

This is why I prefer podcasting, and MP3. Less issues like this…although the iRiver seems slightly more fussy than the iPod I don’t get messages like ‘Error! WMA, OGG or VBR not supported, please downgrade back to 1997…’
