Dean Gray – Dr Who on Holiday video

Sunday, July 30th, 2006

While looking bemusedly at Dr Who Music Videos (have a look on YouTube there are loads – Dr Who vs My Heart Will Go On anyone? Or Kiss Me? Or Nickleback or whatever that is…errr…I’ll mostly pass) I found that Dean Gray’s Dr Who on Holiday has a video. Better (?) alternative source here
Was I the last in the universe to know? Ho hum.

I’d love a better copy *wink**hint**etc*

Wordpress Hack Security Issue

Friday, July 28th, 2006

(directorial credit: Leftjustified)

Looks like according to Dr Dave of Spam Karma an security hole or hack using guest accounts on Wordpress.

Those running Wordpress are highly recommended to goto ‘Options’ in your control panel and unclick ‘Anyone can register’ for the time being. All installs of Wordpress and those not using Spam Karma should do this.

Sounds like Wordpress is working on it but the releases aren’t out there or fixed yet. I have total sympathy with Dr Dave’s issues with WP team’s speediness/mixed response, I had dealings with them over the multiple enclosures and not being able to delete an enclosure issues (standard default response: “It’s supposed to be like that” – what even not being able to delete the enclosures?!?)

I gave up on a fix or functionality to fix the multiple enclosures after nearly a year and installed this plugin not from WP which works like a dream.

Not impressed by the WP dev team or how they do things…

EDIT: Interesting how I wrote this before seeing my concerns echoed here and here…yeah it’s all internal politics, and I still thing Wordpress is the best tool around (better than Livejournal apart from the social side and ‘friends’ postings) but the commercial side to Wordpress worries me…and I see of this reflected on a bigger scale in the current ‘Web 2.0′ VC feeding fest, and maybe affects how they interact with people?

But maybe that’s for another post. Especially including Podshow+ aping like Myspace…;-)

The important thing though, with either PHPBB or Wordpress or any open source product is to update regularly…in the case of WP I have to give credit it’s fairly easy (could be better, fiddling around finding the path to the ‘Upgrade’ link is no fun) but PHPBB is a bitch…

EDIT 2: Wordpress 2.04 has been released to fix this issue – I’d recommend you upgrade ASAP. I will when I get the chance.

Boomselection Flyer excerpt, 2003

[Excerpt of Boomselection flyer 2003, artist unknown]

Another hop, skip and a swift kick to the groin down memory lane, playing the boots of yesteryear in all their Foster and Allen Solid Gold Glory.

As with Part One, all bootlegs and bastard pop muppetry downloadable at this very establishment below, for a short while.

The Beauty of GYBO

Thursday, July 27th, 2006

I’ve mentioned Get Your Bootleg On mashup messageboard in the past, although sometimes had my differences in the past, it always has great humour and sometimes comes up with classic and extremely funny threads.

A recent one was this thread, which mostly about a crap site I won’t mention here, and quite serious in part about sites that leech off the scene for Google hits, then evolved into a thread taking the piss out of software mashups by ‘mashing up’ names of bands and songs and computer terms.

There is comedy genius in there, and it’s a long thread, so I thought I’d save the best ones for posterity.

The ones I came up with:

Men at Quark
P.C. Allstarz
OSX Drugs and Rock n’ Roll
Sly and FireFox

Zip Zip Uncompress Me!
New File Order
Joystick Division
Flaming Chips
CPUs on Speed
Power Spike Hayes
My Bloody Vaxmachine
TerminalVision

And the classics so far harvested from the thread (mostly frenchblokes, quite a few from eve massacre too, but mostly a collaborative effort):

Radio Clash 81: Cheers, Tears and Souvenirs – Tim and Kirk in Amsterdam

Tulips in a CAN!

Yes it’s finally here – Tim & Kirk terrify Amsterdam with their antics on their 10 year anniversary (of what? Well listen to the podcast to find out!), with ‘hilarious consequences’ (*quotes added by our lawyer)

Err…Why am I writing in second person? Anyway it’s littered with music relating either to ver Dam itself or in or around the golden year of 1996 that have, well, a personal meaning…see if you can spot it!
We also meet up with Madge Weinstein and Bicyclemark for the World’s First SmallBloatCast (err probably) on Mark’s boat the Red August (it’s a prequel thing…) where we discuss how FEBO could make serious money with prostitutes, coke money and C5s, faggotry of the penis, segways, slaves and insults and why vblogging sucks.

Also we unwisely play with the windmills of our minds (see what I did there?) with rather too many mushrooms and space cakes…

Apologies for the audio in places – outboard motors don’t like iRivers and vice versa I guess! Taken me ages to clean this hence the delay…

Pictures are on my Flickr, suckr.
