Radio Clash promos

Saturday, May 5th, 2007

I’ve been requested for these a few times now by other podcasters – and if I say myself I’m rather proud of these promos (ooh get her!). So feel free to spread/play/whatever. They are non-CC/non-podsafe btw (although only the backing and most is fairly unrecogniseable) apart from the last one which is all my own work.

Long term listeners might not have heard the BubnBob promo/ident (I don’t think I ever used it!) or the Britcaster 5 minute intro to Radio Clash from a year ago!

Change aka Loneliness of the Long Distance Podcaster

Thursday, January 18th, 2007

I can’t help the feeling that 2007 is going to be a year of change, for me personally, for Radio Clash and podcasting in general.

I’ve obviously only just been invited to the Slow Party because I’ve only just found out that Britcaster is no more – and that there is new forums Tea and Podcasts and the UKPA forum.

Regardless of what you feel about the forum stopping and it’s reasons (I’m not going to go into that little Adam-fuelled flamefest) I do think that podcasting, at least as it stands in the UK is changing…I’m not sure that the entrance into the UK over the last year of Podshow has been a positive benefit; I have mixed feelings of the ructions that has caused (intentionally or otherwise) and feel like the UK scene is fracturing, (if that rag tag fugitive fleet was ever together, that is). I always feared that would happen.

That said I hope as I always have that everyone in podcasting finds success, the people I know related to Podshow included.

What I do know is it feels weird to be one of the last original UK podcasters left; in fact one of the last of that first wave, to be honest. Kind of exposed, lonely even. Other (perhaps better) podcasts have come after me and gotten further – some directly inspired by this show (which is nice, I just wish they’d not be so good at it :-P ), so at the moment I’m wondering about the direction of Radio Clash, and where to take it in 2007 (or maybe another show?) in future. I was down the pub with Kirk and we were talking about this, we have plans, we’ll see what happens. ;-)

At the moment I’m not sure what direction podcasting has, it seems rather in the balance. Certainly this seems like a time of flux; and I think I need to change my tactics.

Oh and waves to my dad, who’s the latest listener of Radio Clash. Woo-hoo!

London Podcasters meetup report

John, Paul and Rob

John (my partner), Paul (organiser of the meetup) and Rob TOTP taken by Mike O’Hara

The meetup went well – met up with Neil Dixon (Britcaster) and Jen (Regularjen) and Mike (from the Fishbowl podcast) and Paul (organiser of the meetup, creator of The Who Tales) in attendance.

Scott of the Night Nurse podcast and Rob of Top of the Pods joined a bit later, and Brad from the MacFormat podcast (I think?) are the ones I remember…it got hazy quite quickly ;-)

John came with me and despite one embarassing moment (for me!) where Rob was asking if John was a genius like I’d told him (oops…John is a genius in my eyes though, and at one point I think he lost all of us by jumping lightyears ahead, well information systems and things like podcasting and blogging is partly what he teaches at University), John had a really good time,

I behaved myself even around Mac-talk (I still think Apple should do a WiFi iPod, it’s a no-brainer), copyright, mashups and bandwidth, and talk about who was the cutest male avatar (eh?) when I came back from a nice Italian meal with John around the corner. I think I missed something on the latter…

Had a great time talking to Jen about punk and gay skateboarders, too! So it wasn’t all g33kt4lk…

Radio Clash is part of the Britpack Podcast!

Monday, May 22nd, 2006

Over at Britcaster there’s a regularly ‘Britpack’ podcast, kind of a mixture of a podcast and a promo where people get 5 or so minutes to talk about whatever, or usually a theme although this was a themeless one.

I rambled on mainly about the show but I’m sure there are more interesting ones! Check it out.

Thanks to phil over at bitjobs for putting this months together….

UK Britcaster / Podshow meetup

Tim and Kirk at the meetup - photo by Scott
Kirk [L] and Tim [R] at the meetup (thanks to Scott for the pic)

I was intrigued by this Podshow UK meetup with Adam Curry so I went along; I know long-term listeners will know my views on Adam and Podshow, but I wanted to hear what he had to say for himself, and meet some Uk podcasters too.

I dragged Kirk along, and met up with Scott from the Night Nurse Show. We met Adam Curry (actually a nice bloke, much taller in real life!)…we talked about commercialism in podcasting (surprise! EDIT: I think this is the outside conversation he mentioned in DSC #373) with which I disagreed his stance, and pointed out he couldn’t sell Radio Clash (he hadn’t heard of RC apparently) and I asked him why he stopped playing mashups and why did he say they were a fad ;-) Also talked about the whole recent Madge ‘faggot’ issue, and about Guildford with me and Kirk – we’re both from there so know the area well.

Also had general jabberingness and met various people including Adrian Pegg, MK from Not Your Usual Bollocks (finally we meet!), Brian of Comedy 365 (who Adrian and a few others thought was me!), many Podcasters called Paul including briefly Podcastpaul, and various other ppl.

Apologies if I missed you, many faces there, I didn’t recognise many of the podcasts or podcastees…

More detail and analysis on my LJ blog, and other ppls pics of our drunkeness and outrage hopefully to follow (I should have taken my camera, as it was I did some ’secret’ photos on Scotts camera but I didn’rt want to be ‘on duty’ so to speak). All in all, pretty good if a bit more g33ki3r and a straighter venue than I feel comfortable in – we eventually left for the King’s Arms.
