DJ Food & DK – That is the sound of ground being broken

DJ Food & DK present – Now, Look & Listen from Solid Steel on Vimeo.

For years I wondered who made the excellent drum and bass mix of The Beat’s Mirror in the Bathroom that Pete Juxtaposeur played in SF and on Radio Clash several times – might have been told ages ago but never tagged it, nor credited the people….finally found out who – it’s DJ Food & DK, originally done I think for a Solid Steel show, and their Solid Steel ‘Now Listen’ mix (must get a copy), but above I found an excellent VJ mix they do live with Scratch-Live and Video-SL. Amazing stuff – and the mashup appears 35:43 in…it’s The Beat vs Mask – Square Off, and is the best Mirror in the Bathroom mashup ever, all other versions are pretenders. And is a total CHOON.

Wish there was a full longer version…I was going to create a video for this as I was surprised it’s not on YouTube but DJ Food and DK have done it already :-D

P.S. Interestingly the next bit – 2001 was a VJ standby of mine back in the day, and The Powers of Ten footage is interesting timing since it might be also used in a project I’m working on ;-) Also I’m looking at VJ softwares as possibly moving into that direction, so interesting to see what Scratch-Live can do – does it mix video live (ie. a video for BOTH sources, or just 1 vid per tune – so you have to premake your mashup vids? If it’s the former that’s more what I want to do, mix multiple sources).

Also having listened to the whole vid (I was at work so watching was a bit impossible) the other OMFG bit is at 23 mins in – Santogold – Say Aha (Tepr Remix) vs The Qemists Feat Wiley – Dem Na Like Me (accapella) – sheer DJ Food/DK brilliance. And I hate Wiley AND Santogold and they, along with TEPR made me care! I’d love a proper mixable long version of that, it’s brill.

And to see how DJ Food (is that just Strictly Kev now?) and DK does it live for this amazing vid from Videocrash in 2008…

Scarey Xmas – the Movie!

Thursday, December 4th, 2008

Here’s a mashup video for DJNoNo’s ‘Scarey Xmas’ – took me ages with the usual technical problems caused by an oddly converted file and syncing Mariah’s voice to a dnb tempo! Includes bits of Human Traffic, Christmas Evil and Nightmare Before Christmas, as well.

Download the MP4 version.

Parkade launch tonight!

Wednesday, May 9th, 2007

The Parkade launch party is tonight – myself, Amanda and Topher are all DJing – the order is if I’ve remembered it correctly:

DJNoNo Ulysses (me!) – 10pm – 12am UK (2-4pm SL/PST)
Amanda Shinji – 12am – 3am UK (4pm-7pm SL)
Topher Delcon – 3am – 7am (7pm-10pm)

It’ll be the usual eclectic mix of bootlegs, electrohouse, dnb, trance, rave, dub, ska, rock and pop – and that’s just my set! The others will be playing those genres and more, so it’ll be fun. Probably be trying out some tracks I’ll be playing in Trier.

So come on down – either search for Parkade (the new club in the same place) or use the SLURL here which I think still works.

And the BootieSL events will go ahead as before :-D

Who Boys NEW ALBUM!

Who Boys LP cover

Yes after 2 years Who Boys have a new mashup album out called The Good, The Bad and the Who Boys it’s a mixture of noise, drum and bass and downtempo doo wop, it seems to cover all bases – regular listeners to Radio Clash would’ve heard 4 of these tracks, all of which I heartily recommend (and now can finally post) -

Voodoo Molly (Little Richard cosies up to Musical Youth, they wisely get very scared)
Stayin’ A Firestarter (caused, well, fires* to start at San Francisco’s Bootie and the Who Boys Shunt gig. * Or something the kids say nowadays…)
Scarborough Clocks (Coldplay goes folderol?)
Friends Stuck in Chemicals (Gerry Rafferty and friends meet Gary Numan – I wonder what they talked about?)

Of the newer ones the downtempo ones are really floating my boat, see also San Fran Chopin, Strange Pyramid, the funny Who Boys Choral Society covers. For noisy dnb see Blue Betty and We Will Chop You (Aphrodite! WOOH!). Needless to say, as before you will hear some of these new tracks on upcoming Radio Clash shows.

Don’t forget, if you haven’t already check out the show where they invaded Radio Clash despite UN sanctions and international furore…you might then understand more of the creative chaos that is Who Boys. Or will you?

Cruise Control #4 – NOW in Second Life

Monday, February 19th, 2007

Cruise Control flyer
Like my new flyer?
As it says above I’m DJing in the virtual world of Second Life at the Parkade in Motorati from 10pm-12pm or later GMT (2-4pm SL time/GMT). Playing all sorts, tonight thinking of playing new wave, punk, 70′s, latest mashups, electro/Devo, hiphop, less frenetic this one compared to previous electrohouse/dnb fests, but who knows?

Come say hi in SL by clicking on the SLURL or search for ‘Parkade’, or listen to the music MP3 stream.
