The theme is there is no theme mashup roundup (Lady Gaga mashed, new Kleptones track)

Friday, June 11th, 2010

Can’t think of a clever thematic linking device apart from there is no mention of the World Cup or football in this po….DOH! Have an unrelated yet topical Chris Brown MAD cartoon mashup instead…

I should be so getting sick of Lady Gaga mashups by now, but no not yet. I was getting ready to hate Pomatic’s Thieves Like Romance Lady Gaga vs New Order mashup (well so few people do New Order justice, much abused in the mash world but rarely bettered) and was surprised to find out that’s it’s a total POP CHOON (Ian Act of Dog and Jeb 50 Pound Note please report to the front desk! beep!) mashing Thieves Like Us and Bad Romance to great effect.

In fact it’s part of a whole album ‘The Fame Monster Mash Hitz’ (title could be slightly better, C- see me!) and it’s pretty good – nothing here crossing genres or experimental like the last post but with tunes like Just Summer – Bananarama vs Lady Gaga (Cruel Summer vs Just Dance) it’s less about cred envelope-pushing and just recognising a good dancefloor-friendly totally pop mashup – which I remind you is quite hard to pull off well especially pure A vs B. And these two do that well – good summer pop mashups.

Unwanted Whisper by The Kleptones

Kleptones are off to several festies this year
, including i_beta festival in the Netherlands and Glastonbury – and afore thee went they left us with a nice present, Unwanted Whisper a reversal mashup of their infamous Bootie track ‘Careless Or Dead’ – rather than using the George Michael instrumental this uses the acapella, and vice versa for the Jon Bon Jovi. Strange to hear this combo reversed, but it also works but in a less immediate way than Careless.

One, two, three, count! The Count Rides Again – Mashed and Slashed Halloween EP!

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

cover

Those of you that remember Bride of Monster Mash and the County Sound track DJNoNo did, well The Count Rides Again, and this time he’s moved to Jamaica and is Count MC wid some dancehall riddim in ‘Batty Dub’ (with Ftatateeta and the Bats).

Mashed and Slashed EP includes spooktastic tracks from Scott Cairo, LeeDM101, CjR, Marc johnce, Clivester, Voicedude and Zee Bearoness so it’s definitely worth a listen. Really recommend CjR’s opener using Fog vs EBTG, Clivester’s camp emo genre-bending take on Rocky Horror’s “Sweet Transvestite’, Zee Bearoness (who dey?) using Vincent Price’s spoken word vs toy piano molester Twink to incredibly spooky effect and Voicedude’s Reggaeton meets More Cowbell band Blue Oyster Cult.

Happy Halloween! WoooOOOOooOOooh!!!!

Bride of Monster Mash album inc new DJNoNo track!

Monday, October 9th, 2006

Launched earlier this week, Bride of Monster Mash is a compilation featuring a new spooktacular mash from our very own DJNoNo called ‘County Sound‘ mixing Count von Count with Aphrodite and Dillinja – altogether “1-2-3-4 I love counting, I can never never stop!”.*

And apparently the people over at Boing Boing love the album too, but gave special mention to DJNoNo‘s track – we’re not worthy!

Also features raves from the grave from Pilchard, DJBC, fettdog, Mr FAB/RIAA, Cheekyboy, Essexboy, Juxtaposeur, Divide & Kreate, Apollo Zero and Irn Mnky and many more!

So it should all get you in the Halloween mood for Mutant, the London launch party on the 28th October at Fluid where the first 50 will get copies of Bride of Monster Mash, and Pilchard, myself, Who Boys, Phil n Dog and a few of the other monster mashers will be playing.

(*BTW those of you that heard DJNoNo’s show 89′s Muppet Mix would have heard the genesis of this track, it came out of the same mix).

The last ever Bastard & GYBO boots gone?

Bastard madness

More dan the gogo galThe last ever Bastard was a BLAST, totally insane and one of the classics…if it is the last, it went out with a bang (or as Holestar, someone I got to speak to at length at last, put it ‘if Bastard is dead, then this is the best funeral ever’…you could say that about bootlegs in general*, as I put it on GYBO ‘If bootlegs are dead no-one told people at Bastard!’

There was people dancing on tables, topless gogo-boys, there was a queue outside (that’s never happened before), Holestar singingLionel’s first set was 80′s/elctro-bollox tastic and a real crowdpleaser, soundHog played a mostly indie-disco style set but dropped Dire Straits vs Dooms Night and the place just erupted.Wasn’t so much into the late part of sH’s set and the 2nd Lionel set – much harder, because of the door policy got really hot and then started getting a hangover I left at 2am. I actually felt bad leaving then, cos the whole crowd were going mad-for-it still.

I got me a freebie of Curdler, sH’s record – thanks m73 and sH! So I’ll check the CD in it out and let you know…

Supercollider, philmanns and Lump go Bastard crazy!

The news that greeted me when I got back that night is that GYBO has had a Cease and Desist; apparently now linking to objectionable files on other servers are not OK (news to me, I always thought it was hosting?) and the boots and tunes sections are now gone. Very sad, I used to get a lot of my mashups and tunes from there; but I’m not sure how legal it is to threaten people over linking to files – I thought the torrent trackers and Google won this fight? Gah!

Well it looks like partly the solution on GYBO has been to post the URL of the site, rather than the file. For the meantime tho MutantPop forum and I think the others (BootyPop, Majick and Boots N Remixes) will allow directly linked files, so if you want to post your boots and mixes, you’re welcome to do it there. But I’m supporting GYBO too by posting links to my sites there…it is a real shame!

Late breaking news afterwards says that there’ll be a Bastard in March; so another last ever Bastard WILL happen most likely. I’ll keep you abreast of the details when I get ‘em – and GYBO now has a ‘Your Space’ forum where you can post links to sites, not the files themselves…not as user-friendly as the old system, but still means you can promote your mixes….YAY!

* They’re not dead of course, unless they are zombies that are grooving around like some insane crystal-meth monster mash chorus…
