Rave music was my first love…and it will be my last. Music for the future….music made to last

I started making music in 1990 so this challenge is a return to my roots – literally. Inspired and for the GYBO Prodigify Me Remix Challenge, Here’s a very Prodigy ‘inspired’ (ie. you might recognise the siren LOL) original tune I did in 1991, remixed for 2009.

I even had to run an Amiga emulator to fetch it out, Workbench and all – yes Amiga MED (pre OctaMED!) 1991, Renoise 2009 shizzle 8 bit samples in effect! WOOH! Err…

It’s very silly, and you can play spot the vocal sample – and yes I was doing darkcore in 1991, purely by accident LOL. Blame a certain kids film. Most of the tunes I did in 90/91/92 embarass me, but I was writing them with Kirk and James so we had a lot of fun…but this is a rare time to hear one. And it was released on an not-so-great Amiga demo so many years ago.

Jeb singing live at Hectic Eclectic 

Wow that WAS a blast! Quite a few people came, a mix of bears and bootleg people (bearlegs? bootbears? err…) including Kirk, James (along with Kirk one of my oldest friends), Steve Holy13Nation, Scott from NightNurse, Ben Jamin, Holestar, Ian Fondue, Ben Goldrun, Robb Idiotech, loads of people

I played a reasonable set, mostly mashups but also a lot of the original tunes I played in podcast #95, but Jeb’s was FANTASTIC and his live stuff (MORE COWBELL!) of his own tunes really surprised people and they loved it (going to try and work out as a result how I can get more live stuff on, it really works).

It’s been great to see Jeb and we’re recording podcasts together with Scott today so you’ll hear all about it I reckon!

Then Cartel Communique do what they do best – which is rocking the house til the early morn with a fanatic small crowd til 3am (!) I went on and finished the night, initially wrecking the dancefloor (oops) but played classics like ‘I want your Love’ and ‘Geno’ and got them boogying along, finishing on Metalium’s ‘Thank You For the Music’ and ELO’s ‘Mr Blue Sky’ (of course! A perfect way to end a night).

And and people liked the video projections, had Ulysses, Charlie Brown, Day of the Triffids and Children of the Stones for me, Breakfast Club and Hardware Wars for Jeb, and Hoff videos, Night of the Comet and High Fidelity for Cartel!
So thanks to all who came, the DJs and special thanks go to the now dubbed Rich’s Uncle who was an older geezer dancing flamboyantly and kissing people’s heads (classic! Cartel seem to inspire such beautiful madness) and Greg, Kirk and Trevor who helped on the door – especially Trevor as he was a member who happened to be there, became a convert and offered to do the door later on.

Just found this site: CC mixter run by the people behind Creative Commons, it’s a community site where you can share your legal Creative Commons mashups, remixes, acapellas and original tunes…please support it, and did I say there’s loads of free samples, tracks, cutups and acapellas on the site that you can legally use?

The jury’s out whether this will take the illegal ‘fun’ out of mashing, but I predict there will be Creative Commons mashup superstars before long; and there are usually loads of new bands and artists wanting remixes of their work – here’s a great way to get a lot of them!
