Something rilly rilly obvious…

Saturday, November 3rd, 2007

I doubt the makers of sites like Podsafe Music Network come here, or any of the other sites like Odeo that have podsafe/unsigned music…but something that is SO OBVIOUS that none of the sites (podsafe or otherwise) ever do is to allow you to compile your own radio station of tracks you (might) like to play, so you can preview/listen/skip to them in the background as you do something else. I suspect the arrogance of marketing companies here – LET’S FORCE THEM TO READ THE ADS! HAHAHAHA!

And sadly the Flash preview buttons tend to cut out in Firefox, forcing you to keep that page open or use the security/UI hole that is IE (ugh).

It seems so fucking obvious, so why does no-one do it?

And decent meta-tagging of podsafe tracks would be nice, or a utility that goes through my iTunes marking podsafe tunes, or at the very least all podsafe tunes should have the word ‘podsafe’ in the comments field.

You’d think that was fairly obvious? Nope.

This is one reason I rarely use podsafe music, as well as general apathy regarding a lot of mini-Me generic unsigned music is that I’d have to spend DOUBLE the time I do now finding tracks, and I’m not totally sure the quality is better? I need to be convinced, but spending more time finding the tracks than the old-fashioned methods (radio, record store, blogs, Myspace etc.) is not going to do it. Especially if it’s supposed to be Web 2.0 and coming from the Net – we’re supposed to know this shit off pat, right?

I’m all for music that isn’t from the big 4, independent or podsafe or unsigned – but if it drains even more time – and those of you with podcasts understand this, those without should stop moaning for new shows cos you don’t understand how much time this takes – and/pr the quality drops it’s not a goer.

So make it easier, and logic says I might play them more…? Anyone?

Radio Clash featured over at Podfinder

Monday, March 12th, 2007

I forgot to say – I’ve been featured and reviewed over at the PodfinderUK video podcast on show 6 – thanks! If you can get over my ugly fizzog being on the video it’s quite good, although it sounds like I didn’t totally convert the presenter! In good company too – not only Tartan Podcast featured (love the ‘I Heart AC’ graphic!), but also Bitjobs for the Masses.
EDIT: And is that a little of Dunproofin’s FU2 mix of Lady Sov I hear on the Twinkelboi segment? ;-) Class tune to be playing and one I also featured on Radio Clash recently.
Gig went really well in Bristol, massive success and loads of people turned up, proper podcast report and photies coming soon!

Shooting

Shooting from the Hip, VD tell it LIKE IT IS and splurges his opinion over the podosphere like a crack whore on heat. Cum and download his UNCOMPROMISING views on podcasting, Podshow and the rest with his cohost STD in the Voice of the People Guerilla Media Helicopter hovering over Podshow Towers.

Absolutely NOTHING to do with this show here. Oh no. Not at all…

Change aka Loneliness of the Long Distance Podcaster

Thursday, January 18th, 2007

I can’t help the feeling that 2007 is going to be a year of change, for me personally, for Radio Clash and podcasting in general.

I’ve obviously only just been invited to the Slow Party because I’ve only just found out that Britcaster is no more – and that there is new forums Tea and Podcasts and the UKPA forum.

Regardless of what you feel about the forum stopping and it’s reasons (I’m not going to go into that little Adam-fuelled flamefest) I do think that podcasting, at least as it stands in the UK is changing…I’m not sure that the entrance into the UK over the last year of Podshow has been a positive benefit; I have mixed feelings of the ructions that has caused (intentionally or otherwise) and feel like the UK scene is fracturing, (if that rag tag fugitive fleet was ever together, that is). I always feared that would happen.

That said I hope as I always have that everyone in podcasting finds success, the people I know related to Podshow included.

What I do know is it feels weird to be one of the last original UK podcasters left; in fact one of the last of that first wave, to be honest. Kind of exposed, lonely even. Other (perhaps better) podcasts have come after me and gotten further – some directly inspired by this show (which is nice, I just wish they’d not be so good at it :-P ), so at the moment I’m wondering about the direction of Radio Clash, and where to take it in 2007 (or maybe another show?) in future. I was down the pub with Kirk and we were talking about this, we have plans, we’ll see what happens. ;-)

At the moment I’m not sure what direction podcasting has, it seems rather in the balance. Certainly this seems like a time of flux; and I think I need to change my tactics.

Oh and waves to my dad, who’s the latest listener of Radio Clash. Woo-hoo!
