Dolly in Poplar 1977

Soundhog said that the other videos on the person who uploaded the Shoreditch Experimental Music School were worth checking out, and he wasn’t wrong. A veritable trove of London history. Here Dolly Scannell talks about how Poplar has changed in 1977. It’s the YouTube site of Chris Dorley-Brown who apparently did a BBC In The East End DVD in 2007 with the BBC..I’d love to see that.

These are the types of educational TV programs we’ve lost, and it’s sad there aren’t more online about London history, because this is fascinating.

Finitribe – DeTestimony (Tauschsieder remix)

When I say this floating around the social media cloud or whatever they now call it, I thought ‘aye aye’ – but when I finally got round to pressing play it really wasn’t what I expected. Tauschsieder* and banging beats haven’t really been in the same room let alone darkened park transmitting radio – so prepare to be pleasantly surprised. And more good news is I hear via Acid Ted there is more mixes of this classic Finitribe track being released next year – Graham Massey, Justin Roberston, Optimo and indeed this Tauschsieder mix included.

Glad to see this rather neglected track get it’s due…never understood why Orbital’s Chime got all the plaudits as it was several years later, and less interesting…and I suspect also formed from a peal (carillon?) of bells. Now all we need is The Egg to come back, and all would be well in the realm of Scotch acid ;-)

*For those long term Radio Clash listeners, Tauschsieder is Frenchbloke, Innes from Cnut and Soundhog, all who have been played on the podcast at some point, sometimes together.

RC 249: A is For Acid Accordion (Odds and Sods #15)

Spell Acid?
T-U-R-N-O-N.
That is correct!
Now spell Accordion?
M-Y-R-O-N-F-L-O-R-E-N.
That’s correct!
Now spell Antidisestablishmentarianism?

Not done an Odds and Sods show for a while, and this motley and curious collection surely qualifies. Even an intro via Speak and Spell (yes I edited it to make the words) via Pink Floyd and some accordion playing…there is a sort of psychedelic theme running throughout it seems. And even an exclusive Reality Engine track from me, which you might have heard only on Radio Clash Live, and now here…

Turn on, tune in, and chord out. (2:02, 121MB)

Victoria and Jacob – Theia Mania (Soundhog Remix)

Great and current sounding blissed out remix of Victoria & Jacob by Soundhog. Amazing how things analogue, progressive, Kraftwerkian* and modular has come back around isn’t it? It’s not a bad thing – loving the more psychedelic, hazy, shoegaze, doom rock influences in bands recently, but this is more in the blissed out/shoegaze/electro pop part of that – and more importantly than any silly labels is a COMPLETE CHOON. More! Not sure if it will get a official release, but I suspect it will.

* is that a word?
