More face things…

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

Someone though who did do a great job of making my fizzog look more than passable is Mark Who Boy, who like it seems the rest of the Who Boys has given up music and started painting – art is the new rock n’ roll donchaknow!…so of course I had to go sit for Mr Rathmell and had a great evening of wine, chat, art and films about Francis Bacon (and The Acid House, which is well odd if good, especially the last story).

Here are his portraits, for someone who’s only got back into painting this January he is coming on great, very confident lines now and developing his own style. I love how he’s captured my trademark puzzled/inscrutable/confused/squinty expression on #2 and the beard on #1 rocks. I hope to see an exhibition of his work soon!

MutantPop TV

Monday, June 8th, 2009

Fed up with YouTube pulling my videos, here is MutantPopTV – really a bunch of FLVs and MP4s on my server, but a hopefully permanent home for these videos. As with any TV channel you’ve got a mix here – from my mashup music videos, full VJ sets, video podcasts and random DJing/drunken rambles and old art degree videos – many hours of watching, and as it’s on shuffle you’d always get a random next video – or select from the list if there’s something you like the look of.

I’ll add more as I find it or export it at the higher quality here – this should play fine on broadband connections 512Mb or faster – if not let it preload, as it’s not live streaming you won’t miss a thing :-)

Oh and before you rip any videos from here I’d be happy to send you a link to a hi-res QT H264 MOV if I have it (and most of them I do) rather than anyone trying to use or play low-res FLVs – just click ‘contact’ above.

My best photographs – a slideshow

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

I’ve setup the ‘Best’ set in Flickr, which includes what I think to be my best photographs so far, well of the ones I’ve shared online, anyway (there are about 10,000+ film ones that have never been scanned!).

Quite hard for me to choose, I’m very picky technically but also have to see the other side that some pictures transcend that criteria – even if I can see in my head the picture I saw at the time, and the photo doesn’t measure up. I’m sure all serious photographers get this.

To see more – go to the new special Radio Clash Photography area or click the link at the top of the page (wooh!)

Ground Shelter (Hope & Fear) – two topical mashups

Friday, November 7th, 2008

(after Shepard Fairey)

OK I’ve been working on this mashup of Stereo MC’s vs Rolling Stones vs Benga vs Fun Boy 3 for a while – kind of a State of the Nation address in a mashup as regards how I felt in the run up to the US election, Georgia v. Russia, Iran and Iraq, Military Industrial Complex and various things…but history in the fact of Obama being elected president overtook me, so the paranoid worried bootleg seemed a bit at odds with the times.

So I’ve created two – one called (Fear) the full-length extended version with the Chris Rock intro, and a short radio version called (Hope) using Barack Obama’s recent speech in Chicago after he won the presidency – really they are different mashups, with a common basis.

Ground Shelter (Hope) - Stereo MC’s ‘Ground Level’ vs Rolling Stones ‘Gimme Shelter’ vs Benga ‘Lightbulb’

Ground Shelter (Fear) - Stereo MC’s ‘Ground Level’ vs Rolling Stones ‘Gimme Shelter’ vs Benga ‘Lightbulb’ vs Fun Boy 3 – ‘Lunatics Have Taken Over the Asylum’

Apologies to Shepard Fairey for abusing his wonderful artwork; and love goes out to Ian Fondue who gave me some tips on an earlier version – hope it works Ian!

(Shepard Fairey will be after me…)
