On they pound the Noise that never sleeps, in the heart of the city

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

London. It’s 1984, and a band called The Art of Noise make their first video, and a previously unknown dutch director and music photographer creates his second ever video for them.

The photographer/directors name? Anton Corbijn.

Great video including shots of London in the mid 80′s…makes me feel all nostalgic. Where’s Night Network to play this?

Warning: contains Paul Morley.

Soundhog – 500 Bad Mice gets a video

Saturday, April 17th, 2010

Yup the classic Proclaimers vs 2 Bad Mice has a rather good video made by minnn07 – shame they don’t credit Soundhog for it for tis one of his classics – always gets the party started that one!

EDIT: ooh just seen Soundhog has uploaded this video for Freelance Hairdresser‘s ‘Knees Up Look Sharp’ – a Bastard classic. And a bootleg bastard pop, NOT a mashup ok? ;-) Oh and hurry up and download – sH’s site is going to go down on May 2nd…

The Return of the Trololo, DJNoNo goes totally Trololowooble

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

44 years later…Eduard Hil (Khil)? is interviewed about being an internet star and shown the fan videos:

He’s right, it’s not parody, not ironic, not nasty, it’s with love – it makes you smile and never out stays it’s welcome.

I almost DJ’d the Trolololo song on Thursday…I wish I had now. I wasn’t sure how many people knew it – looks like this is world-wide! DJNoNo made this rather silly Trololo mashup for it, a combination of Aphrodite’s (NOT AGAIN!) Wooble and The Bee remix and Trololo – it’s silly, messy, and doesn’t probably work entirely but here, have it and I hope it raises a smile (that’s not hard with Trololo). This will probably not be posted elsewhere so let’s keep it a secret between you and I, eh? Probably for the best, not sure the world is ready for such madness…

And someone has even done an Trololo Audiosurf video already and it even works with that…

Here’s a message from the man himself:

70 Million…I think that collection of art is worth more than that

Monday, March 8th, 2010

70 Million by Hold Your Horses ! from L'Ogre on Vimeo.

A reader(listener?) suggested this video to me, suggested the video was like a mashup…I’m a sucker for well made videos (although the hype around the OK Go one means I haven’t posted it) but this is a new band Hold Your Horses! and their amazing video for ’70 Million’ using a massive collection of artworks for their guide. Must’ve taken ages – and if you’re tired of remembering your Van Gogh from your Vermeer the list is here.

I don’t think it’s a mashup though…;-) To mashup would take the paintings and change them, rather than copy them in a different format, closer to a cover…still really clever though. It got me at the Raft of the Medusa, brilliant idea for a chorus!

Best. Music. Video. Ever.

Friday, February 26th, 2010

Cartelmike brightened up a grey and depressing Friday by posting this rather strange yet wonderful ray of Russian sunshine. I would listen to this on a loop. Continously. With extra loopy bits.
